M ontreal and Toronto media company Sphere Media is consolidating its multiple kids scripted, animation and factual teams into one division.
Marlo Miazga (pictured) will lead the division as president of Sphere Kids and Family, in addition to her role as president, unscripted and documentaries. She will work with current president of Sphere Animation, Jacques Bilodeau, who will retire later this year. Bilodeau founded the business as Oasis Animation in 2003, and remained with the company through Sphere’s 2019 acquisition and rebranding.
To help with the scope of her new remit, Sphere’s director of English unscripted content, Andrea Griffith, has been promoted to VP of development and content within the new division. Sphere Animation’s VP of operations, Judith Beauchemin, will move to the new unit as its VP of production and post.
The shift also affects Sphere Media-owned animation studio Sardine Productions, which it acquired in January 2022. As part of the rejig, Sardine founder Ghislain Cyr has been named creative director of Sphere Kids and Family.
Recent greenlights for the company include animated series Riley Rocket for TVOkids and Saving Me for BYUtv.
Miazga said the combination of the company’s animation assets and creative teams will “exponentially increase our overall potential” and “stake our claim as a major global player in this sector,” in a statement.
