ACTRA Toronto reveals noms for 21st annual awards

The performers' union has also announced that actor and stuntman Paul Rutledge will receive the ACTRA Toronto Stunt Award.

Talent from Netflix’s My Little Pony: Make Your Mark scored multiple nominations for the 21st ACTRA Awards in Toronto, which will also honour Paul Rutledge (pictured) with the ACTRA Toronto Stunt Award.

ACTRA Toronto released the nominees on Monday (April 3) and will announce the winners at an in-person ceremony on April 26.

The nominees for Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Female Voice include three nominees from My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, with AJ Bridel picking up the nod for the episode “Izzy Does It” as well as Ana Sani and Bahia Watson for the episode “The Traditional Unicorn Sleepover.”

They will compete against Ellen Dubin for the audiobook Dance Me to the End (ECW Press Ltd.) and Louisa Zhu for Netflix’s Transformers: BotBots’ episode Lone Bot and Carb.”

Grace Glowicki picked up a nod in Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Female for Sophie Jarvis’ Canadian feature drama Until Branches Bend  (Experimental Forest Films, Ceroma Films and Reign Films, in partnership with Switzerland’s Cinédokké Films) alongside Raven Dauda for the Apple TV+ miniseries Five Days at Memorial, episode “Day Five”; Christine Horne for Jeremy LaLonde’s Canadian thriller feature Ashgrove (Banana-Moon Sky Films, Cryingman Productions, Peter Harvey Productions); Sheila McCarthy for Canadian director Sarah Polley’s recent Oscar winner Women Talking; and Kiana Madeira for Clement Virgo’s Brother (Hawkeye Pictures, Conquering Lion Pictures), fresh off securing the most nominations at this year’s CSAs.

Ashgrove is also named in the category of Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Male with star Jonas Chernick nominated alongside Constant Bernard for Gail Maurice’s Rosie (Assini Productions, Night Market); Adolyn H. Dar for Kashif Pasta’s short Desi Standard Time Travel (Dunya Media), Araya Mengesha for CBC Gem’s Revenge of the Black Best Friend episode “The One Who Dies First” (iThentic); with Eric Peterson rounding out the list for Prime Video’s Junior’s Giant (Bankrupt T Clown Productions Limited).

Josh Cruddas has been nominated for Outstanding Performance – Gender Non-Conforming or Male Voice for The Roku Channel’s Doomlands episodeImaginary Fiends” (Look Mom! Productions) competing against Cory Doran for YTV’s Super Wish episode Copycat (redknot), Jeremy Harris for CBC Kids’ Big Blue episode “Fraidy Phil” (Guru Studio), Ivan Sherry for the BYUtv Saving Me episode Mind Trip (Sphere Animation) as well as Billy MacLellan for his role as narrator in the audiobook Each Man’s Son (McGill-Queen’s University Press).

CBC’s Sort Of (Sphere Media) is up for another Members’ Choice Series Ensemble Award alongside Murdoch Mysteries (Shaftesbury), Bell Fibe TV1’s Pink Is In! (Pink One Productions), the recently cancelled Pretty Hard Cases (Cameron Pictures) as well as digital series Tokens (Tokens On Call Productions).

The ACTRA Toronto Stunt Ensemble nominees include Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale for its episode “Safe”; the Paramount+ Mayor of Kingstown episode “This Piece of My Soul”; HBO Max Titans‘ episodes “Brother Blood” and “Lex Luthor”; and FX’s What We Do In The Shadows episode “The Night Market,” which was also nominated for a Rockie Award.
