Hot Sheet: Ted Lasso soars to silver for digital originals

Meanwhile, Letterkenny held firm to No. 3 while Netflix's Shadow and Bone entered the digital originals list at No. 5.

Happy-go-lucky soccer coach Ted Lasso scored with Canadian audiences this week as the Apple TV+ series of the same name kicked its way up the demand charts following the premiere of its third season on March 15.

The sports comedy-drama (pictured) starring Jason Sudeikis jumped four spots to No. 2 on the digital originals chart and entered the overall TV rankings at No. 4 with an average of 29.15 for the week of Mar. 13 to 19, according to Parrot Analytics, up nearly nine points from the week before.

Meanwhile, series starring Pedro Pascal continued to dominate both demand charts. HBO’s The Last of Us, currently streaming on Crave, claimed the top spot for overall TV and was 44.04 times more in demand than the average TV series in Canada, up slightly from the prior week. Pascal’s other series, Disney+’s Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian, ranked No. 1 for digital originals and No. 2 for overall TV for another week despite a dip in demand with an average of 38.94.

Crave original Letterkenny, the rural comedy starring Jared Keeso, held firm to its third place ranking from the prior week while increasing demand. The series was 25.97 times more in demand than the average TV series, also making the overall TV list at No. 8. Paramount+’s Star Trek: Picard, which also streams on Crave, dropped more than two points with an average of 23.04, falling two places to No. 4 for digital originals as well as to No. 9 for overall TV.

A pair of Netflix series round out the top six for digital originals as Shadow and Bone (22.58), a fantasy series set in the Grishaverse and based on two series of books by Leigh Bardugo, entered the list at No. 5. Stranger Things (19.91) fell two places to No. 6 with a decrease in demand from the week before.

For overall TV, Comedy Central’s South Park came in third with an average of 33.49, down more than a point from the prior week. NBC’s Saturday Night Live (26.28) and Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants (26.12) both fell one spot after slight decreases in demand placing No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is ten times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
