Toronto-based Sinking Ship Entertainment has inked several new broadcast deals for proprietary and third-party series in its catalogue.
CBC Gem bought the first two seasons of comedy series Odd Squad (114 x 22 minutes; pictured), which Sinking Ship produces in association with Fred Rogers Productions. Evision’s Ejunior kids channel has renewed its rights to air season one in UAE, as well as picking up Fred Rogers Productions’ animated series Alma’s Way (40 x 22 minutes).
TVP (Poland) picked up two seasons of the producer/distributor’s 24 x 22-minute sci-fi series Endlings, with Sky in the U.K. acquiring 52 x 5-minute puppet series Playdate (which premiered on Family Jr. eight years ago). NHK in Japan bought the first season of animated/live-action series Dino Dana (52 x 22 minutes).
OUTtv
Vancouver-based LGBTQ+ network OUTtv has launched a linear channel on South African pay TV service Openview Ultra. The offering is a “permanent 24-hour linear channel” that launched on Monday (March 6), according to a news release. Openview is a platform owned by Johannesburg-based company eMedia Investments, and is available in more than three million homes in South Africa.
The channel includes a number of OUTtv original series, including reality competition Call Me Mother, produced by Toronto’s Go Button Media in association with RedFlame TV, and reality series Hot Haus, produced by U.S. prodco Daddy TV.
Blue Ant Media
Toronto-headquartered Blue Ant Media has revved up its FAST (free, ad-supported TV) strategy with the launch of its latest linear streaming channel Love Pets. The channel has been launched with U.S. platform Sling Freestream alongside other FAST offerings in the Blue Ant portfolio, including sister channel Love Nature, Total Crime, HauntTV, Homeful, and HistoryTime. Newly launched FAST channel Drag Race Universe will be launched at a later date.
Love Pets features programming around domesticated animals and the humans they live and work with, including The Shelter: Animal SOS (6 x 30 minutes), Pick-a-Puppy (48 x 30 minutes), and ER Vets (30 x 30 minutes). The FAST channel will be distributed on additional platforms in the coming months, according to a release.
