Hot Sheet: Velma cracks digital originals top three

Paramount+'s 1923, which is a prequel series to Yellowstone, also debuted on the digital originals chart at No. 7 for the week of Jan. 16 to 22.

HBO Max’s Velma, created by and starring Mindy Kaling, has sleuthed its way to the top three on the digital originals chart following its series premiere.

The 10-episode animated comedy series (pictured), which follows the origin story of Velma Dinkley of the Scooby-Doo Mystery gang, came in at No. 3 for the week of Jan. 16 to 22, according to Parrot Analytics. Velma, which premiered on Jan. 12, was 20.06 times more in demand in Canada than the average series.

Paramount+’s 1923, the prequel series to Yellowstone, debuted on the digital originals chart at No. 7 following its mid-season finale. The western drama, which premiered on Dec. 18, saw a Canadian demand average of 17.01 for the week.

Disney+’s The Mandalorian rose from its No. 2 spot to lead the digital originals chart with an average of 30.99, up significantly from the previous week’s 21.34. The series also appeared at No. 2 on the overall TV demand chart for the week.

Netflix’s Stranger Things fell to No. 2 on the digitals chart with a demand average of 23.28. It landed at No. 5 on the overall TV demand chart.

Hulu original The Handmaid’s Tale maintained its No. 4 spot on the digitals chart, while Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia fell two spots to No. 5 after its demand average decreased to 17.46 compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, the series that dominated the overall TV demand chart for the week was AMC’s The Walking Dead with an average of 31.15. HBO’s Game of Thrones fell one spot to No. 3 on the chart with 26.51, down slightly from the previous week’s 28.01, followed by HBO Max’s Sesame Street at No. 4 with 23.39.
