Michael Goldbloom has been reappointed to another five-year term as chairperson of the CBC/Radio-Canada board of directors.
The second term will go into effect on March 29, 2023, according to an announcement from Minister of Canadian Heritage Pablo Rodriguez. Goldbloom (pictured) was first appointed as chair of the board of the public broadcaster in 2018.
Goldbloom has more than two decades of experience in Canadian news, serving as publisher of The Gazette in Montreal (now titled Montreal Gazette) from 1994 to 2001 and the Toronto Star from 2004 to 2006. He is currently principal and vice-chancellor at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Que.
The Department of Heritage reconvened a 10-person independent advisory committee in November to recommend new board members for CBC-Radio Canada, as a number of positions are coming to the end of their terms. The committee was formed to select “highly qualified candidates that respect gender parity and truly reflect Canada’s diversity” for consideration by the Governor in Council, according to a news release.
Goldbloom is a member of the advisory committee in an informal ex-officio role, said a spokesperson for Canadian Heritage, and was selected for his institutional knowledge of the public broadcaster.
