Hot Sheet: Wednesday creeps onto demand charts

Netflix's Stranger Things returned to the top of the digital originals chart for the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4.

Canadians don’t seem to be spooked by Netflix’s Wednesday, which landed on the top five of the digital originals and overall TV demand charts following its series premiere.

The comedy horror series (pictured), based on The Addams Family character Wednesday Addams, came in at No. 2 on the digital originals chart and at No. 5 on the overall TV demand chart for the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, according to Parrot Analytics. Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Canadian actor Percy Hynes White, was 24.81 times more in demand in Canada than the average series following its premiere on Nov. 23.

Netflix’s Stranger Things climbed back to the top of the digital originals chart for the week with a demand average of 26.47 – a slight increase from the previous week’s 25.95. The hit sci-fi series also appeared on the overall TV demand chart at No. 2.

Rounding out the top five on the digital originals chart are dual Star Wars titles from Disney+ —  Andor, which fell to No. 3 from the top spot last week with 23.11, and The Mandalorian, which rose to No. 4 with 21.04 — and Hulu original The Handmaid’s Tale at No. 5 with 18.61, remaining steady from the previous week.

Meanwhile, AMC’s The Walking Dead stayed at the top spot on the overall TV chart with a declining demand average of 28.36 compared to the previous week’s 34.17.

HBO’s Game of Thrones remained at the third spot on the overall TV chart for the week with 25.79, despite a lower number than the previous week’s 27.37, while HBO’s The White Lotus moved up to No. 4 on the chart with 25.34.

Parrot Analytics calculates its Top 10 lists using Demand Expressions, which are shown by using a metric that demonstrates how much more in-demand the top series are than the average TV show (linear, pay TV, SVOD and AVOD) in Canada. For example, a difference of 1x represents the market average and 10x means a series is 10 times more in demand than the average TV show in this market.
