CMPA reveals Indiescreen Awards nominees

The winners of the Established Producer and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer awards will be announced at the Whistler Film Festival on Dec. 2.

Producers from 10 Canadian films are in the running for the annual Indiescreen Awards.

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) revealed the nominees for the Established Producer and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer awards at the Playback Film Summit on Tuesday (Nov. 15).

Up for the Established Producer Award are: Conquering Lion Pictures’ Damon D’Oliveira for Clement Virgo’s drama Brother; Night Market’s Jamie Manning for Gail Maurice’s drama Rosie; Metafilms’ Sylvain Corbeil for Charlotte Le Bon’s Falcon Lake; Picture Plant Limited’s Terry Greenlaw for Koumbie’s drama Bystanders; and Peterson Polaris’ Michael Peterson for Berkley Brady’s mystery-thriller Dark Nature.

Nominees for the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award include Fae Pictures’ Shant Joshi for Chase Joynt’s documentary Framing Agnes; Babe Nation Films’ Katie Bird Nolan and Lindsay Tapscott for Mary Nighy’s thriller Alice, Darling; SSMT Productions’ Sara Blake, Magali Gillon-Krizaj, and Tyler Hagan for Sophie Jarvis’ psychological drama Until Branches Bend; Barker Street Cinema’s Norm Coyne for Wendy Ord’s rom-com The Way to the Heart; and Push Pictures’ Alexandra Roberts and Danny Sedore for Joseph Amenta’s coming-of-age drama Soft.

Reynolds Mastin, president and CEO of the CMPA said in a statement that “the quality of the films and the calibre of the producers that make up this year’s Indiescreen Awards nominees showcase the impressive creative talent and technical excellence of Canada’s feature film producers.”

The nominees and winners are selected by a national jury of five industry leaders and chaired by the previous year’s winners.

The winners will be announced at an in-person awards ceremony at the Whistler Film Festival on Dec. 2. It will be presented in partnership with Telefilm Canada. The CMPA announced the ceremony’s move to the film festival in August, with plans to hold the event at different locations across Canada.

The CMPA announced an increase in the prize money for the awards in August, with the Established Producer honour growing from $10,000 to $20,000, and the Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer prize increasing from $5,000 to $10,000.
