Toronto-headquartered Wild Media Entertainment is giving the feature film treatment to Canadian author Allan Stratton’s novel The Dogs.
Directed by Toronto’s Valerie Buhagiar (Carmen; pictured) and produced by Wild Media Entertainment, in association with 2ofaMind Productions, the adaptation is currently in production in Northern Ontario until Nov. 18. Filming takes place at Sturgeon Falls in West Nipissing and in Verner, Ont.
Wild Media optioned the rights to the young-adult novel in 2018.
James Milligan, Anthony Artibello, Sheila Rogerson, and Jason Jallet serve as producers, while Paul Flint, Kevin C. Bjerkness, Perry Dellelce, and Brad Pelman serve as executive producers. Artibello and Rogerson are also the writers of the film, which is funded in part by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
According to a news release, The Dogs is currently “out to market seeking domestic and international distribution.”
The story follows a mother-son duo who move into a farmhouse near the quiet town of Wolf Hollow and learn about its haunting history. It stars Donovan Colan (Spirit Halloween), Kathleen Munroe (Patriot), Asher Grayson (Kids vs. Aliens) and Kris Holden-Ried (Departure).
Buhagiar said in a statement that The Dogs is a “powerful script beyond being a genre film; it has a poignancy that chills.”
