Canadian industry veterans Dave Conlon and Michael McGuigan have partnered to launch Toronto-based media company Shadow Pine Studios.
The studio will serve as a producer and distributor for premium television, film and digital titles, beginning with the acquisition of Breakthrough Entertainment’s content library, along with additional assets. McGuigan is formerly the CFO and partner of Breakthrough Entertainment.
Shadow Pine Studios will also utilize post-production capabilities of Eggplant Picture & Sound and Eggplant Music & Sound, which are owned by Eggplant Collective, where Conlon has served as CFO and founding partner. The move will aid Eggplant’s “strategic growth,” said Conlon in a statement, adding that it will allow “our group of companies to leverage our existing relationships to access new revenue streams.”
Alicja Wicinski joins the company as SVP of operations, with Leanne Brennan appointed as head of production. Both are former Breakthrough Entertainment staff members.
The existing content library includes TV titles such as Blood and Water (pictured), Greatest Tank Battles, and Less Than Kind, and more than 35 feature films, such as Vicious Fun, The Oak Room and the upcoming comedy Vandits. The library also includes a number of holiday films currently in post-production.
Shadow Pine Studios is currently in development on new original titles to add to its slate. The company has launched ahead of MIPCOM, which runs from Oct. 17 to 20.
“Breakthrough had a long history of creating and distributing exceptional content,” said McGuigan. “With the launch of this new studio, we are well positioned and excited to expand on that tradition of excellence.”
