Crave original comedy Bria Mack Gets a Life has found its directors in Kelly Fyffe-Marshall (pictured left) and creator Sasha Leigh Henry (pictured left) as production gets underway in Toronto.
The 6 x 30-minute comedy is produced by New Metric Media and was unveiled in June as part of Bell Media’s upfront presentation. Henry, part of Playback‘s 2022 10 to Watch cohort, is the showrunner and executive producer, in addition to creator and director on the series.
New Metric Media president Mark Montefiore and Tania Thompson are executive producers, while Angelique Knights and 10 to Watch alum Tamar Bird are producers.
The series stars Malaika Hennie-Hamadi as the title character who finds herself leaning on her imaginary hype girl, played by Hannan Younis, as she navigates living as an adult Black woman in a predominantly white world.
Fyffe-Marshall recently had the world premiere of her debut feature film When Morning Comes, which was produced by Henry, Bird and Iva Golubovic, at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. Henry and Bird were also producers on Fyffe-Marshall’s award-winning short film Black Bodies.
Additional cast members for Bria Mack Gets a Life will be announced at a later date. Production is expected to wrap next month.
