Crave comedy series by Carolyn Taylor skates into production

The series is produced by Catalyst and Blue Ant Studios as part of their non-scripted coproduction joint venture.

Production is underway in the Greater Toronto area for Catalyst and Blue Ant Studios’ new female-led unscripted comedy series, the untitled Carolyn Taylor project.

Filming for the 6 x 30-minute series takes place until mid-November. It was commissioned by Bell Media’s Crave in June and produced by Catalyst and Blue Ant Studios as part of their non-scripted coproduction joint venture, which was formed out of a strategic partnership to “develop female-generated programming for the global marketplace,” according to a news release.

The untitled Carolyn Taylor project is created by Taylor (pictured; Baroness von Sketch Show), who also stars and co-directs the series with Zack Russell. Taylor and Russell are the executive producers along with Vibika Bianchi and Julie Bristow of Catalyst, and Laura Michalchyshyn, Aileen Gardner and Sam Sniderman of Blue Ant Studios.

It is supported by the Rogers Cable Fund and the Bell Fund. Blue Ant International holds worldwide distribution rights. The project is slated for release on Crave in 2023.

The comedy follows Taylor as she ambitiously tries to choreograph the perfect pairs figure-skating routine to be performed in front of an audience of skating stars and fans with no figure-skating knowledge and skill. Olympic and world champion skaters help Taylor achieve her mission, including pairs skaters Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini, and Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, as well as Ekaterina Gordeeva, David Pelletier, Kurt Browning, Brian Orser, Elizabeth Manley, Adam Rippon, and Elladj Baldé.

Taylor is joined on her figure-skating journey by Toronto-born actor and comedian Mae Martin (Feel Good) and figure-skating choreographer Sandra Bezic (Battle of the Blades).

Catalyst founder Julie Bristow said in a statement that “Carolyn proves that believing in yourself and following your dreams can lead to remarkable things. And luckily for us all, figure skating is only one of Carolyn’s dreams. Turns out she has lots of them for future seasons.”

The first project commissioned from Blue Ant Studios and Catalyst’s joint venture was Mission: Unexplained for Canadian channel T+E in February. The docuseries examines inexplicable events witnessed by military veterans on the front line.

Catalyst, formerly known as the Content Catalyst Fund, rebranded in September with the appointment of a new development coordinator, Mithila Majithia, and the launch of a series of “Community Connector Events.”
