WildBrain has ordered the live-action film Life with Luca­ for its flagship network Family Channel and has acquired worldwide distribution rights for the project.

The 90-minute film­ is a spinoff of the popular Canadian teen sitcom Life with Derek, which aired on Family Channel from 2005 to 2009. Produced by Toronto’s Shaftesbury, it sees the return of step siblings Derek and Casey from the original series, both of whom are now adults with teenage kids of their own. Financing for the film came via the Canada Media Fund and Shaw Rocket Fund. It is set to air on Family Channel in February 2023.

WildBrain has also acquired global distribution rights to Life with Derek (70 x 22 minutes) as well as the 2010 spinoff movie Vacation with Derek.

The media company has also ordered additional episodes (5 x 30 minutes) of Summer Memories, a copro ​​from Canada’s Yeti Farm Creative and Aircraft Pictures along with Israel’s A&N Productions. The 2D-animated series was greenlit in 2021 and is aimed at the six to 12 demo.
