Accessible Media Inc.’s (AMI) original production head Andrew Morris (pictured) is departing after more than a decade with the broadcaster.
Morris’ contract as manager, independent production at AMI-tv will end effective Wednesday (Aug. 31). He will continue to work closely with AMI as interim director of the Disability Screen Office (DSO) to help oversee its transition into an independent organization, according to an email announcing his departure.
A spokesperson for AMI confirmed to Playback Daily that it will not hire a replacement for Morris’ position. “Cara Nye, director of production, will oversee all of AMI-tv’s television production and content development, with Jennifer Johnson and Michelle Dudas serving as supervising producers and Em Williams overseeing AMI-tv’s media accessibility initiatives,” said AMI in a statement.
Morris has been with AMI for over 12 years, and in his most recent role was responsible for overseeing original productions for AMI-tv, including series such as the award-winning Employable Me (Thomas Howe Associates) and new format Fashion Dis (Nikki Ray Media Agency).
AMI initially launched the DSO in April to advocate for “meaningful disability representation” in the Canadian media sector and help remove accessibility barriers. The office received financial support from the Canada Media Fund to create a best practices guide, as well as startup funding from Telefilm Canada.
