CBC has renewed original dramedy Moonshine for a third season, now filming in Nova Scotia.
The 8 x 60-minute East Coast family series was created by Sheri Elwood, who continues to serve as executive producer, showrunner, and director. It is produced by Nova Scotia-based Six Eleven Media and Entertainment One (eOne).
Six Eleven Media’s Charles Bishop and eOne’s Jocelyn Hamilton are executive producers.
Moonshine follows the Finley-Cullens as they fight for the ownership of their resort. Its returning cast includes Jennifer Finnigan (Salvation), Anastasia Phillips (Killjoys), Emma Hunter (The Beaverton), Tom Stevens (The 100), Alexander Nunez (The Story of Love), Peter MacNeill (Good Witch), Erin Darke (Miracle Workers), Farid Yazdani (Odd Squad), James Gilbert (Frankie Drake Mysteries), Celia Owen (A Small Fortune), Calem MacDonald (The Umbrella Academy), Allan Hawco (Hudson & Rex), Allegra Fulton (Chapelwaite), and Leigh-Ann Rose (The Young and the Restless).
JD Martin (Manifest) has joined the cast for the new season, according to CBC. Returning guest stars are Jonathan Silverman (Good Girls) and Kirstin Howell (Diggstown).
Meredith Vuchnich and cast member Nunez are new additions to the writer’s room for season three joining Elwood, Kate Spurgeon, Josh Saltzman, Moira Stevenson, Angelica Mendizabal, and Onyeka Oduh. Meanwhile, Shamim Sarif is the new addition to the directing team, joining Elwood, Scott Smith, and James Genn.
Moonshine is produced with the assistance of the government of Nova Scotia through the Nova Scotia Film & Television Production Incentive Fund, with additional funding from the Canada Media Fund, as well as provincial and federal tax credits.
In a statement, Elwood said she is “humbled and thrilled to be able to continue the saga of the Finley-Cullens along with my team of talented writers, directors and cast,” adding that she is grateful to CBC and eOne for “allowing us the creative freedom to wave our freak flags for another season.”
Bishop said they are “delighted to be filming the third season in Nova Scotia with its world class crew, remarkable talent and stunning locations.”
Moonshine is distributed internationally by eOne. Its second season premieres Oct. 2 on CBC and CBC Gem.
