Veteran television executive Tony Leadman, who worked on the international distribution front with Canada’s CTV and Bell Media, has joined the Weather Channel.
Allen Media Group, the mediaco formed by Byron Allen and parent company to the Weather Channel, brought on Leadman to head up international distribution for the network’s primetime programming and original series.
Leadman, who joined the Weather Group division earlier this month, is responsible for developing and leading a business unit that will distribute such Weather Channel programs as Frozen Gold, Uncharted Adventure and The Earth Unlocked to broadcasters and content platforms around the world.
Prior to joining the Weather Channel, Leadman worked on the international distribution front with CTV and Bell Media, most recently heading up Exploration Distribution Inc., the distribution division for Discovery Canada’s in-house production unit. Leadman was among the execs impacted when Bell Media folded that production unit, Exploration Production Inc., into Bell Media Studios early last year.
Before his time with CTV and Bell Media, Leadman served as Canadian executive manager of MGM Studios’ television division.
“Tony Leadman is highly accomplished and respected in the international broadcast industry,” said Byron Allen, founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group, in a statement. “With his extensive experience in media, sales and marketing, we are confident Tony will help us achieve our international programming initiatives and goals.”
Leadman said the company intends “to form partnerships and supply agreements with the world’s major broadcasters and producers.”
