BANFF Master Class lineup includes The Umbrella Academy, The Lake

Teams from Starstruck, Rutherford Falls and Among the Stars will also speak in Master Class sessions at next month's Banff World Media Festival.

Talent and creatives from series including The Umbrella Academy, The Lake and Starstruck are among those set for the Master Class lineup at next month’s Banff World Media Festival (BANFF).

Sessions announced Thursday (April 5) include one with The Umbrella Academy Canadian star Elliot Page (pictured left); creator, writer, executive producer and showrunner Steve Blackman; and Netflix’s head of scripted series, U.S. and Canada, Peter Friedlander. They’ll discuss the third season of the Toronto-shot superhero series, premiering June 22 on Netflix.

There will also be a chat with the stars and creative team behind Prime Video’s Ontario-shot comedy series The Lake, produced by Toronto-based Amaze: Canadian actor Jordan Gavaris (pictured right); Julian Doucet, creator, writer and executive producer; Michael Souther, executive producer, Amaze; Teza Lawrence, executive producer, Amaze; and Brent Hayes, head of scripted content, Canada, Amazon Studios.

The Lake was originally pitched at BANFF and is now set to launch on Prime Video on June 17 in 240 countries and territories worldwide.

HBO Max and BBC Three romantic comedy Starstruck will be represented in a conversation with Rose Matafeo, creator, star and executive producer; and Rob Aslett, executive producer.

The 43rd edition BANFF is set for June 12 to 15, in-person at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alta.

Other Master Class attendees include with a team from Peacock comedy Rutherford Falls: Sierra Teller Ornelas, co-creator, showrunner, writer and executive producer; Canadian actor Michael Greyeyes; and Erin Underhill, president, Universal Television.

The team behind the Disney+ docuseries Among the Stars, about NASA astronauts, will discuss how they’ve taken a unique approach to the space show genre with cameras on both Earth and the International Space Station. That session will include Ben Turner, director, producer and founding partner of Fulwell 73 Productions; and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

BANFF returns to in-person events this year after two years of virtual editions due to the pandemic. The international conference and marketplace kicks off with an exclusive “In Conversation” session with pandemic expert Dr. Ashish K. Jha, and global philanthropist, entrepreneur and Lionsgate Entertainment founder Frank Giustra.

Other Summit Series keynote speakers include Pearlena Igbokwe, chairman at Universal Studio Group; Bela Bajaria, head of Global TV for Netflix; and David Linde, CEO of Participant.
