Corus Entertainment-owned specialty channel W Network has greenlit a series of four TV movies from Toronto’s Nikki Ray Media Agency for its winter 2023 slate.
Titled The Love Club (4 x 120 minutes), the MOWs follow four women who meet at a New Year’s Eve college party and form a club to help one another with their romantic woes.
The films are produced by Nikki Ray Media Agency in association with Corus Studios, which holds international distribution rights, and with the participation of the Canada Media Fund. Executive producers are Nikki Ray Media Agency’s Mike Sheerin and Tanya Linton.
Production is currently underway in Hamilton, with Toronto’s Jill Carter (The Bold Type) attached to direct all four. The scripts were penned by Canadian Screen Award winner Barbara Kymlicka (Glass Houses). Filming is expected to wrap in July.
The cast includes Brittany Bristow (Holiday Date), Lily Gao (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Chantel Riley (Frankie Drake Mysteries), Camille Stopps (Running with Violet), Marcus Rosner (Arrow), Jesse Hutch (Batwoman), Andrew Bushell (Jump, Darling) and Brett Donahue (Private Eyes).
The W Network has had a string of success with its MOW strategy through its content deal with the Hallmark Channel, bringing in high ratings during its annual Countdown to Christmas programming in November and December. The channel was the No. 1 specialty network for adults 25 to 54 in 2020, according statistics from Numeris.
