The award-winning web series, which first premiered on YouTube in 2019, is now in development as a half-hour comedy about actors working on a fictional medical drama.

Toronto-based Saloon Media is in development on a half-hour adaptation of the web series Hospital Show, created by Adam Greydon Reid.

The Blue Ant Media-owned prodco will co-develop and coproduce the adaptation with Greydon Reid’s Vancouver banner Bullrush Pictures, which produced the original web series. It will be adapted as a workplace comedy about a group of actors playing doctors on a fictional medical drama.

Greydon Reid wrote, directed, produced, edited and starred in the web series, which has been acquired by Roku to stream in the U.S., U.K. and Canada.

Executive producers on the project include Greydon Reid, Saloon Media’s SVP, scripted content Melissa Williamson and founder and CEO Michael Kot, and Allagash Entertainment manager Joe Fowler.

Hospital Show was filmed in Vancouver and debuted on YouTube as a 10 x 5-minute series in 2019, featuring cast members Adrian Holmes (19-2, Bel Air), Sara Canning (Nancy Drew, A Series of Unfortunate Events) and Kristin Lehman (Motive, Midnight Mass). It won prizes on the festival circuit and two Leo Awards in 2020, including Best Web Series and Best Performance by a Male in a Web Series for Holmes.

“Adam’s deep experience as both an actor and a creative shine through in the writing, directing and producing for the web series, and we couldn’t be more excited to reimagine this property as a full-fledged half-hour comedy with him,” said Williamson in a statement. “The show’s sharp wit and fresh concept is exactly what we are looking for as we continue to grow our scripted slate, and we’re excited to bring this new series to audiences around the world.”

The deal is part of Saloon Media’s expansion into scripted content, which began with Canada/U.K. coproduction Ghost Walk, announced as a title in development with Blue Ant channel T+E in 2021. Saloon Media has a long history of producing factual content, including 9/11 Kids, Hotel Paranormal, See No Evil and Cheating Hitler.
