Hulu has picked up the U.S. rights to Crave’s upcoming Letterkenny spinoff, Shoresy.
Crave and New Metric Media say Hulu will be the exclusive streaming home to the debut season of the smalltown hockey comedy (pictured) in the U.S., where Hulu also streams the hit hoser comedy Letterkenny, which was Crave’s first original series.
The 6 x 30-minute Crave original Shoresy is produced by Toronto-based New Metric Media, in partnership with creator/star Jared Keeso’s Play Fun Games, in association with Bell Media for its streaming service Crave. The series is being made with the participation of Canada Media Fund, Ontario Creates, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. Halifax-based WildBrain is the distributor, while New Metric Media is the exclusive sales agent.
The new series started production in November in Sudbury, Ont., with the debut season slated to launch this spring in English and French. It’s not known yet whether it will launch on both Crave and Hulu simultaneously or on different dates.
Keeso is also executive producer, writer and plays the titular character, a foul-mouthed fan-favourite who joins a senior triple-A hockey team in Sudbury on a quest to never lose again.
Letterkenny co-creator Jacob Tierney is executive producer and director, while Kaniehtiio Horn is consulting producer. Mark Montefiore is executive producer and Kara Haflidson is producer for New Metric Media. For Bell Media, production executive is Chris Kelley; Sarah Fowlie is head of production, original programming; Carlyn Klebuc is general manager, original programming; Justin Stockman is VP, content development and programming; and Karine Moses is senior VP, content development and news.
Other cast members include Tasya Teles (The 100), Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat (Tribal), Blair Lamora and Keilani Rose.
“It’s a point of pride that hockey players and comedy remain two of this country’s finest exports and so we are thrilled to introduce Shoresy to the ever-growing legion of American Letterkenny fans,” said Stockman, in a statement. “With this latest sale to Hulu in the U.S. and the overall success of the franchise, Bell Media and Crave continue to help create must-see content that knows no borders.”
