Look Mom! Productions’ adult animated series Doomlands has found a home with The Roku Channel.
Created and directed by Josh O’Keefe, the series follows titular character Danny Doom, voiced by Mark Little, and an aspiring bartender, voiced by Kayla Lorette, who try to survive life in The Oasis while traveling with their mobile pub. It will premiere on ad-supported The Roku Channel in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. on Jan. 28.
Look Mom! Productions’ managing director Josh Bowen is an executive producer on the series. O’Keefe and Lee Porter served as co-showrunners with Little, Lorette, Roger Bainbridge and Brandon Hackett among the writers.
The series was initially commissioned by the now-defunct streaming service Quibi in April 2020 before it went dark later that year. Roku subsequently acquired roughly 75 titles from Quibi’s content library in January 2021, but Look Mom! Productions parentco Blue Ant Media did not confirm whether Doomlands was part of the deal.
Doomlands originated as O’Keefe’s university film project, according to a news release, and became a crowdfunded pilot before Look Mom! Productions boarded to develop it into a series.
“Doomlands is ‘Mad Max’ meets ‘Cheers’ in the Mos Eisley Cantina, which is a major part of what originally attracted us to the concept,” said Bowen in a statement. “This project was produced almost entirely throughout the pandemic. In fact, Josh literally produced this show from my mom’s basement with the help of her home cooked meals. The final product is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our team, and we’re so excited that it’s now a Roku Original.”
