With demand for content soaring internationally during the pandemic, the Canadian screen industry has shown resilience and resourcefulness to rise to the challenge.
Service production continues to drive a significant piece of Canada’s total production volume – totaling $9.3 billion in 2020 – with $5.25 billion (that’s 56%) generated by foreign-initiated productions according to the Canadian Media Producers Association’s 2020 Profile Report.
Playback’s 4th Canadian Locations Showcase takes us to key high growth regions — to the province of Alberta which is experiencing its busiest 18 months on record; Northern Ontario, where demand for space is behind plans for a purpose-built, 120,000 sq. ft. studio in Sudbury; and further south to Pickering where William F. White’s new backlot promises a versatile and economical shooting location.
We also bring you the latest from MELS Studios in Montreal and Versatile Media in Vancouver, as they join the race to become leaders in virtual production and LED stage technology.
