Directors Guild of Canada reveals feature, doc and short film winners

Wendy Morgan, Yung Chang, Danis Goulet and Hannah Michielsen score big in the 20th annual awards, while Trickster also picks up a win.

A fter reviewing nearly 350 submissions, the 20th edition of the annual Directors Guild of Canada (DGC) Awards is in the books – with All My Puny Sorrows picking up two awards.

Covering the fields of feature film and television, Wendy Morgan won Outstanding Director Achievement for her feature film Sugar Daddy while Yung Chang’s Wuhan Wuhan was named the Allan King Award winner for Excellence in Documentary, at the award ceremony held by the national labour union yesterday (Oct. 24).

Danis Goulet’s Night Raiders captured DGC Discovery Award Short List honours, while Hannah Michielsen’s Ingredients was named Best Short Film.

On the TV side, Tim Southam was recognized for his Outstanding Director Achievement in a Dramatic Series for “The Rapture of Burning, episode 308” of American Gods while Vivieno Caldinelli and Joyce Wong won the Comedy Series accolades for “Whatever you do, don’t smell his T-shirts, episode 501” of Baroness von Sketch Show.

Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Family Series went to Melanie Orr for “What Happened In Bridgeport, episode 108” of The Hardy Boys, while Danishka Esterhazy was honoured for her similar achievement in Movies for Television and Mini-Series for I Was Lorena Bobbitt.
