Syfy cancels SurrealEstate after one season

The series first premiered on July 16 on Syfy in the U.S. and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada.

Syfy has canceled Canadian paranormal series SurrealEstate after one season.

The 10 x 60-minute series, produced by Toronto’s Blue Ice Pictures in association with Bell Media and Syfy, ran on Syfy in the U.S. and CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada and first premiered on July 16.

The news was announced on Monday (Oct. 18) by George Olson, creator, executive producer and showrunner, via his Twitter account. “Sorry to tell you that we will not be moving forward with Syfy on season two of #SurrealEstate,” he wrote, adding that he is “committed to finding a new home” for the series. The series’ producers confirmed the news to Playback Daily.

SurrealEstate stars Tim Rozon (Wynonna Earp) and Sarah Levy (Schitt’s Creek) as real estate agents who exorcise haunted houses in order to sell them.

Executive producers include Daniel Iron, Lance Samuels, Armand Leo and director Danishka Esterhazy. Season one was filmed in St. John’s, NL.

Last year Syfy canceled Vagrant Queen, another Canadian sci-fi production from Blue Ice Pictures, after one season. The channel also ended popular SEVEN24 Films series Wynnona Earp after its fourth season, with fans still campaigning for the series to find a new home for a fifth season.
