Toronto-based Aircraft Pictures and U.S. prodco Cloudco Entertainment-produced Holly Hobbie is changing U.S. commissioning broadcasters following its third season for Hulu.
New partner BYUtv has renewed the tween live-action series for seasons four and five.
Holly Hobbie launched in 2018 as a Hulu original, and season three will premiere on the streamer at the end of November. There were no details at press time about when seasons four and five would be available.
The series isn’t leaving the House of Mouse entirely, though – Disney Channel U.S. has acquired the first three seasons (30 x 30 minutes).
WildBrain confirmed to Playback Daily that Family Channel will continue as the Canadian commissioning partner on Holly Hobbie for seasons four and five. The channel has served as the Canadian broadcaster since its first season.
Other broadcasters that have just picked up the show include ABC Australia (seasons one to three), RTE in Ireland (one to three), Kidzone in the Baltics (one and two), YLE in Finland (one), HRT in Croatia (one and two) and RUV in Iceland (one and two). CBBC in the U.K. and New Zealand’s TVNZ have also both picked up the third season.
The show’s protagonist is a small-town girl with dreams of being a singer-songwriter who saves her grandmother’s café by starting a successful open mic night. Produced by Aircraft Pictures in association with Cloudco Entertainment and WexWorks Media – and with financial support from The Shaw Rocket Fund – Holly Hobbie is executive produced by showrunner Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: The Next Generation).
