Production in rural Manitoba has wrapped on Finality of Dusk, the sophomore feature from director Madison Thomas.
The sci-fi film is directed and co-written by Thomas. Katarina Ziervogel, who is Deaf, co-wrote the intersectional script with Thomas, which features First Nations and Deaf performers.
Finality of Dusk went into production on April 27 and is produced by Eagle Vision partners Kyle Irving and Rebecca Gibson, as well as Darcy Waite, who produced Thomas’ directorial debut Ruthless Souls. Eagle Vision founder Lisa Meeches is an executive producer and Hannah Johnson is a co-producer.
The feature is set in a post-apocalyptic 2072 where humans need to wear masks to survive after environmental disasters have led to a permanent poison fog in the air. It stars Marika Sila (Tribal, Lucifer), Cherrel Holder (Burden of Truth) and Guy Laliberté Prize-winner and performing artist Chris Dodd.
“Finality of Dusk speaks to many social and environmental issues we’re currently facing, all wrapped up in a compelling story of love and survival,” said Waite, in a statement.
Finality of Dusk is supported by Telefilm Canada and Manitoba Film and Music, and was pre-licensed by CBC.
Thomas, a Playback 5 to Watch alum, has previously worked with Eagle Vision on the docuseries Taken, which earned her a Canadian Screen Award nomination, and as a writer on CBC drama Burden of Truth.
