Some Vicious Fun is set for Shudder’s ‘Summer of Chills.’
Directed by Black Fawn Film’s Cody Calahan, the horror comedy has been tapped to premiere on the AMC Networks supernatural streamer as part of a summer lineup of new horror films for June, July and August. Vicious Fun is the fifth of 12 films in the lineup and launches June 29 on Shudder in Canada, the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.
Shot in Hamilton, ON, Vicious Fun follows a 1980s film critic for a national horror magazine who finds himself trapped in a self-help group for serial killers, forcing him to blend in with his surroundings or risk becoming their next victim.
Produced by Black Fawn Films in partnership with Breakthrough Entertainment, Particular Crowd and Radioactive Pictures, the film stars Evan Marsh, Amber Goldfarb, Ari Millen, Julian Richings, Robert Maillet, Sean Baek and David Koechner.
Distributed by Breakthrough Entertainment, Breakthrough VP of distribution Craig McGillivray negotiated the deal with Shudder. This is the first time this agreement has been announced.
“It’s always exciting to start working with a company whose vision is completely aligned with our own. We’re excited to be starting this new relationship with Shudder and can’t wait for people to see Vicious Fun,” said Breakthrough’s McGillivray in a statement.
Further, Calahan added that Vicious Fun (pictured) was made from a lot of blood, sweat and tears.
“It’s a wild ride and I couldn’t be more excited to have Vicious Fun released by Shudder. They are truly one of the leaders in the industry. In these strange and bizarre times, I feel extremely fortunate to have them on board with getting this movie in front of millions of eyeballs. I can’t imagine a better partner,” he said.
Alongside Vicious Fun, writer/director/producer Amelia Moses’ psychological thriller Bleed with Me will debut as a Shudder Original Film on Aug. 10.
The Talent to Watch project starring producer Lee Marshall, Lauren Beatty and Aris Tyros, previously made its world premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival last year and will be available on Shudder in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Mariel Sharp also serves as producer on the film.
Bleed with Me follows a vulnerable outsider who is invited by her seemingly perfect best friend on a winter getaway to an isolated cabin.
Last November, Toronto-based Raven Banner Entertainment announced it the title was part of its genre acquisitions, with Bleed with Me set to be released in early 2021 alongside Epic Pictures.
