Italy’s Leone Film Group and multi-platform entertainment company Wattpad have teamed up to give The Bad Boy’s Girl the feature film treatment.
The independent production and distribution company has optioned the full series of novels from author Blair Holden’s saga, “setting up the next hit teen romance film franchise,” according to a press release about the project. The Bad Boy’s Girl is among the most popular stories on Wattpad, garnering more than 220 million reads.
Leone Film Group’s CEO Raffaella Leone, Andrea Leone, Carlo Salem and Federico Polimanti will executive produce the project alongside Wattpad’s Aron Levitz (pictured), Eric Lehrman and Lindsey Ramey.
The Bad Boy’s Girl follows a girl who only has two goals for her senior year – to keep her head down and to get over the heartbreak of seeing her longtime crush date her ex-best friend. However, when her childhood bully returns to town after military school, he might just be the one good thing to come out of her year.
This adaptation comes in the wake of Wattpad-story-turned film franchise After, which Leone Film Group distributed in Italy. The franchise includes six films, with its third and forth instalments currently in production and two additional films in development with Voltage Pictures.
“We are really excited about this new partnership with Wattpad. Building on the success of the After movies, we have decided to devote part of our international production line up to projects envisioned and created with an audience of young adults in mind. After Time Is Up, starring Bella Thorne and Benjamin Mascolo, The Bad Boy’s Girl saga will be Leone Fim Group’s next project aimed at such an audience, which we are certain will flock back to the big screen as soon as they can,” said Leone in a statement.
The project joins more than 90 film and TV projects in development from Wattpad.
