TVOKids has renewed BGM’s musical children’s series Backyard Beats for a second season.
The 26 x 11-minute series is targeted to school-age children and teaches them how to make music with common household items and is scheduled to debut new episodes in late fall 2021.
Season two of Backyard Beats will once again be hosted by Monica Brighton, who also co-hosts That TVOkids Show, joined by a number of guest musicians. The first season earned a nomination for Best Children’s or Youth Non-Fiction Program or Series in the 2021 Canadian Screen Awards.
Executive producers on Backyard Beats include BGM president Marlo Miazga, Daniel Bourré, Sean Connolly and TVOKids director Marney Malabar. BGM (formerly Bristow Global Media) was acquired by Sphere Media in 2020.
“After such a successful first season of Backyard Beats, we are ecstatic to be welcoming Monica Brighton back as host for season two,” said Miazga in a statement. “The timing is perfect, as activities during the pandemic can be limited and children are looking for new and fun at-home crafts to stay creative.”
TVOKids has also set May 17 as the premiere date for another BGM-produced series, Gabby’s Farm. The series, which was originally announced as Abby’s Farm, is hosted by six-year-old Gabby, who teaches preschoolers about life on the farm and the daily work that farmers do. Premiering alongside Gabby’s Farm is the companion series Count with Gabby! (20 x two minutes), which focuses on math lessons.
