After a pandemic-disrupted 2020, many shooting destinations across Canada look set to bounce back stronger than ever in 2021, as OTT players and traditional broadcasters continue to invest vast sums into the expansion of their content pipelines.
While the country has long been a go-to destination for international producers seeking highly skilled crews, competitive incentives, robust infrastructure and stunning scenery, impressive on-set COVID safety measures have made Canada an even more enticing proposition for domestic and international companies navigating pandemic-era production.
Across the country, the total production volume hit a record $9.3 billion in 2018/19, according to the Canadian Media Producer Association’s most recent report. And while that total certainly fell significantly in 2020 due to the pandemic, production hubs throughout Canada have reported that production has returned in a big way in late 2020 and early 2021.
