Peppa Pig renewed, creative re-org underway

Entertainment One has greenlit 104 new episodes of the iconic preschool show, and original creators Astley Baker Davies will hand the reins over to animation studio Karrot.

The creators of Peppa Pig are stepping back from production on eOne’s long-running kids show and passing the torch to London-based Karrot Animation (Sarah & Duck), which will carry the show into 2027 and fulfill an 104-episode renewal.

The change coincides with the end of ABD’s most recent commitment to produce 117 episodes of the series. “We decided that now is time for us to give ourselves the space to work on other projects without the day-of-day of producing Peppa,” said the studio in a statement. “It feels like the right time to let a new studio produce the next episodes.”

Five-minute episodes produced by ABD will continue to roll out until 2023, followed by Karrot’s eps through to 2027. The renewal brings the total number of episodes up to 485.

Original creators Mark Baker and Neville Astley, as well as producer Phil Davies, will not be involved in the new episodes, but ABD will work closely with eOne in the transition process, according to a release. Karrot plans to preserve the show’s animation style, music and voice talent. And to smooth the changeover and maintain continuity, ABD’s Phil Hall, who has written for Peppa Pig since 2007, will join Karrot as head writer on the new episodes.

Animation director Andrea Tran (Ruff-Ruff, Tweet and Dave) has been tapped to direct the new episodes, while Karrot founders Jamie Badminton, Chris White and Tim O’Sullivan will respectively serve as producer, executive producer and creative director.

ABD became a subsidiary of eOne in 2015 after the Toronto-based company acquired a majority stake in the animation studio.
