Production has wrapped on The Breach starring Allan Hawco (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan).
Produced by Pasha Patriki of Toronto’s Hangar 18 Media with co-producers Andrew Thomas Hunt, James Fler and Michael Paszt from Toronto-based Raven Banner Entertainment, the film is based on Canadian author Nick Cutter’s novel of the same name and comes from a screenplay penned by Cutter and Ian Weir.
Directed by Rue Morgue Magazine founder Rodrigo Gudiño (The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh), The Breach follows a police chief in his last days in his role in a tiny Northern Ontario town. However, when a body with uncanny wounds washes up, the man is pulled into a horrific mystery.
Notably, legendary Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash serves as an executive producer on the film and co-produces the score. Gregor Habsburg and Jacquelyn Frisco of L.A.-based De Angeles Films also serve as executive producers on the project.
Alongside Hawco, the film also stars Emily Alatalo (Spare Parts), Wesley French (Through Black Spruce), Natalie Brown (The Strain) and Adam Kenneth Wilson (24 Hour Rental).
“We’ve had the pleasure to work with both Slash and Rodrigo on separate projects in the past,” said Raven Banner managing partner Paszt in a statement, “and we couldn’t be happier to be reuniting with them both to bring Nick Cutter’s story to the screen.”
Previously, Raven Banner picked up the Canadian rights to director Anthony Leonardi III’s Nothing Left to Fear from Slash’s Slasher Films. Additionally, the company previously released Rodrigo’s The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind in Canada. California-based Imagine Entertainment – founded by director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer – acquired the U.S. rights to the film from Raven Banner.
Hangar 18 Media is a joint venture between Raven Banner, 9 Light Entertainment and post-production house Red Square Motion, which changed its name to PurpleDOG Post Production in 2020. Hangar 18 Media’s Patriki also serves as CEO of 9 Light Entertainment and founder of PurpleDOG Post Production.
The venture’s previous projects include Spare Parts, The Fight Machine and Paszt’s feature directorial debut, Nail in the Coffin: The Fall and Rise of Vampiro.
