Tribal Police Files launches season three in Alberta

Directed and produced by Steve Sxwithul'txw, the 13 x 30-minute APTN docuseries will feature local officers in the Tsuut'ina Nation outside of Calgary.

Cameras are rolling for season three of the APTN docu-series Tribal Police Files.

The 13 x 30-minute season is directed and produced by Steve Sxwithul’txw under his OCM3 Productions banner. The new season will take place in the Tsuut’ina Nation, which is located outside of Calgary, to look at the stories of its local tribal police officers. It will also be translated into the Tsuut’ina Nation’s language.

Previous seasons have been filmed in the Chippewas of Rama First Nation community in Ontario and the Stl’atl’imx Nation. Production will wrap later this month.

Additional safety measures and precautions will be taken in light of the pandemic, according to the release.

Tribal Police Files is supported by the Canada Media Fund, APTN and the National Bank of Canada. The series offers a unique take on the traditional cop series by looking at how the police interact with the community, offer a view into their personal lives, and features the local Indigenous culture. Sxwithul’txw himself is a former B.C. police officer.

Alberta is among several Canadian provinces that have recommenced production following the COVID-19 shutdowns. Wynonna Earp, which films in the Calgary area, went back into production in July.
