Pacific Northwest Pictures (PNP) has acquired the Canadian distribution rights to Geordie Sabbagh’s timely comedy Canadian Strain (pictured).
The cannabis-centred feature is written and directed by Sabbagh and produced by Ashleigh Rains under their We’ll Be Over Here banner. It stars Jess Salgueiro as a cannabis dealer who finds herself out of work once marijuana becomes legal in Canada. Starring alongside Salgueiro are Naomi Snieckus (Mr. D), Nelu Handa (Baroness Von Sketch Show), Benjamin Ayres (Suits) and Colin Mochrie (Whose Line Is It Anyway?).
PNP is set to release Canadian Strain in early 2020. The film will have its world premiere at the Whistler Film Festival. Sardé Hardie, director, sales and acquisitions at PNP brokered the deal with Rains.
The distributor recently closed its Vancouver offices and relocated to Toronto. Former eOne exec Mark Slone took over as president of the company earlier this year.
PNP’s most recently Canadian acquisitions include Joey Klein’s Castle in the Ground and Darlene Naponse’s Falls Around Her.
