marblemedia greenlit for All-Round Champion

Set to air in early 2020, the adaptation will see 10 accomplished North American athletes competing outside of their comfort zones.

Toronto prodco marblemedia has been given the greenlight for All-Round Champion, a North American adaptation of Norwegian public broadcaster NRK’s Best i mest or Allround Champion.

A co-commission from TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada, and BYUtv in the U.S., the 11 x 60-minute adaptation places 10 athletes out of their element as they compete in each other’s respective sports like wakeboarding, gymnastics and skateboarding. Hosted by Olympian Perdita Felicien, participants will be scored on criteria like skill, sportsmanship and improvement, with one athlete winning the title of All-Round Champion.

Set to air in early 2020, marblemedia acquired the North American format rights to the show from Germany’s Beta Film GmbH. Produced by NRK Super, the 20 x 40-minute original series picked up an International Emmy Kids Award in 2016.

In addition to host Felicien, the unscripted series will feature a new sports star in each episode, like diver Laura Wilkinson, gymnast Alicia Sacramone Quin and wakeboarder Dan Shapiro. Each of these 10 stars will coach the athletes, helping them overcome various challenges.

Producers on the adaptation include marblemedia co-founders and partners Matt Hornburg and Mark Bishop, Look Mom! Productions head of studio Steve Sloan, Michael Dunn, Andra Johnson Duke, BYUtv’s Jim Bell and TVO’s Marney Malabar.

This is the second time in as many years that marblemedia has picked up the format rights and adapted an unscripted series. In 2017, the company remade the 1980s game show Just Like Mom (under the new title Just Like Mom and Dad). The series, which airs on YES TV in Canada and BYUtv in the U.S., was greenlit for a second season last year.
