After more than eight years at the helm, Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) executive director Jacqueline Dupuis is stepping down.

The festival announced Monday that its 38th edition will be Dupuis’ last as she leaves to pursue other professional and personal interests.

Over the coming months, Dupuis will act as an advisor to the board and senior leadership team as the search for her successor begins.

Dupuis joined VIFF in 2011, becoming the festival’s first-ever executive director. She had previously served as the exec director of Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) for six years.

During her tenure, Dupuis oversaw a period of significant growth as the festival grew its overall revenues by around 40%. In 2016, she also saw a structural overhaul of VIFF’s operations whereby three previously separate business units – the film festival, the film centre and its various industry initiatives – were combined. She also oversaw a number of sustainability initiatives, including the first-ever Sustainable Production Forum.

In a press release, the festival also noted that Dupuis oversaw double-digit growth in VIFF’s under-25 attendee demographic. Elsewhere, VIFF said its current annual operating budget is more than $5.5 million.

In a statement, board chair Dave Hewitt said Dupuis “leaves behind a legacy of transformation.”
