sarah-sutherland-colonelleProduction is underway in Toronto on the drama Like a House on Fire, a coproduction by Colonelle Films and Woods Entertainment.

The film is written and directed by Jesse Noah Klein and produced by Colonelle’s Sarah Mannering and Fanny Drew alongside Woods Entertainment’s William Woods. It stars Sarah Sutherland (pictured) as a woman who tries to reconnect with her estranged husband and young daughter. Additional cast members include Jared Abrahamson (Hello Destroyer, Travelers), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Wynonna Earp, The Carmilla Movie), Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale) and musician Hubert Lenoir.

Entract Films holds the Canadian distribution rights. Like a House on Fire is financed in participation with Bell Media’s Crave, Telefilm, SODEC, Ontario Creates and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.

Woods’ distribution outfit Game Theory Films currently holds the Canadian distribution rights, outside of Quebec, to Colonelle Films’ Une colonie (“A Colony”), which picked up Best Motion Picture, Best First Feature Film and an acting prize for star Emilie Bierre at the 2019 Canadian Screen Awards. The producer recently launched Line 200 Inc., a $2.5 million fund to help finance mid-budget Canadian films and prodcos.

Meanwhile, Colonelle Films’ The Trials of Alien Life (“L’Èpreuve de la vie extra-terrestre”) was named an Official Selection for the Frontières international copro market in Montreal’s Fantasia International Film Festival.

The cast is comprised of fast-rising Canadian talent. Sutherland, who is best known for her role in HBO’s Veep, is the daughter of Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland. Abrahamson was named a TIFF Rising Star in 2017 and Brugel currently holds a lead role in the Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale. Provost-Chalkley earned this year’s audience choice award at the CSAs for her role as Waverly Earp in Wynonna Earp.
