Toronto distributor levelFILM has picked up the Canadian distribution rights to Wendy Morgan’s untitled debut feature, which began filming in the GTA this week.
The project, produced by Clique Pictures and Violator Films, was first revealed in 2016 under the title Sugar Daddy. It’s toplined by Colm Feore and Kelly McCormack and tells the story of a struggling artist who signs up to go on paid dates with wealthy older men. McCormack penned the script and produces it through her prodco Floyder Films.
Producing alongside her are Clique Pictures’ Lauren Grant and Violator Films’ Lori Lozinsk. David Jenkins, Heather Laird, Mark Gingras, John Laing and LevelFILM’s David Hudakoc are executive producers. The film is financed by levelFILM, Telefilm, the Harold Greenberg Fund and Urban Post Production.
This is Morgan’s first feature film, having most prominently created music videos for artists such as Janelle Monae and Gnarls Barkley. Marie-Hélène Delorme (Foxtrott) will provide original music for the project.
Additional cast includes Amanda Brugel (The Handmaid’s Tale, Workin’ Moms), Nicholas Campbell (Heartland), Noam Jenkins (Watch Dogs), Aaron Ashmore (Killjoys, Cardinal), Ishan Davé (Mouthpiece), Tiio Horn (Death Wish), Jess Salgueiro (Workin’ Moms), Tony Nappo (Bad Blood), Rob Stewart (Killjoys, Falls Around Her), Michelle Morgan (Heartland) and Broken Social Scene’s Brendan Canning.
Filming is scheduled to wrap on April 3.
