The dramedy from Amaze Film + Television goes into production this spring with showrunner Andy Berman joining the team.

Amaze Film + Television’s lighthearted procedural Carter is getting a second season.

The series has been renewed by Bell Media’s CTV in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and WGN America.

Andy Berman, whose credits include Psych and Rosewood, joins the series as showrunner and exec producer while series creator and season one showrunner Garry Campbell returns as an exec producer and writer.

Production is set to begin this spring in North Bay, ON. Season one of the hour-long comedy rang in at 10 episodes, with the the episode count for season two not yet announced.

The show stars Jerry O’Connell as Harley Carter, an actor who returns to his hometown for a break after an ugly public incident. While back, he finds himself making use of his skills as a fictional TV detective when he is roped into various real-life mysteries. Season two picks up with Carter establishing himself as a celebrity private investigator and dealing with a love triangle between his best friend and her new boss.

Commissioned by Sony Pictures Television for AXN (in Spain, Latin America, Brazil, Japan, Central Europe and Russia) and by Bell Media for Canada, Carter made its premiere on Bravo in May. The show later joined the CTV main network schedule this summer.

According to Numeris data provided by Bell Media, the comedy made Bravo the #1 specialty channel in its timeslot in 2018. In addition, U.S. channel WGN America, which picked up season one of the series this summer, said the show was its most-watched original series in 2018. The comedy also reached 6.5 million total viewers across Europe in 2018, according to AXN.

Exec producers on Carter include series star O’Connell, Campbell, Berman and Amaze’s Teza Lawrence and Michael Souther. The show also stars actors Sydney Poitier Heartsong and Kristian Bruun.

Sony Pictures Television distributes Carter worldwide, while Amaze handles Canadian distribution.
