Cartoon Network preps DHX Media’s Mega Man

The new video game-based series will debut next month following WildBrain's launch of a YouTube fan hub for the show.

Cartoon Network is set to premiere DHX Media’s new animated series Mega Man: Fully Charged on August 5. Before the linear premiere, the first 10 episodes will be available on the Cartoon Network app and various TV providers’ VOD platforms, as well as on-demand streaming platforms in the U.S. starting on August 3.

The Canadian debut, on DHX Television’s Family Channel, will follow in fall 2018. Mega Man is co-produced by DHX and California-based Dentsu Entertainment.

Based on the Capcom Mega Man video game, first launched in 1987, the franchise has spawned 136 video games on multiple platforms, selling more than 32 million copies worldwide.

Aimed at kids ages six to 11, the show follows Mega Man’s alter-ego Aki Light, a normal schoolboy robot with nano-core technology that allows him to transform into a hero. Man of Action Entertainment serves as the executive producers and story editors on the series.

In addition to the animated series launch, DHX-owned digital network WildBrain is preparing to launch a fan hub on YouTube starting on July 21. The dedicated channel will include new clips and trailer previews on a weekly basis.

On the licensing front, Jakks Pacific previously signed on as master toy licensee to create action figures, figurines, playsets and accessories, role-play items, and everyday dress-up and Halloween costumes that will roll out in spring 2019.
