Production begins on Soska sisters’ Rabid remake

Produced by Back 40 Pictures, the remake stars Laura Vandervoort and Ben Hollingsworth.

Cameras are rolling in the Toronto area on the Soska sisters’ remake of David Cronenberg’s classic 1977 horror film, Rabid.

Written and directed by Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary, pictured) and John Serge, the remake is produced by Back 40 Pictures. The film is produced by Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde and John Vidette.

It stars Laura Vandervoort (Jigsaw) as a Rose, a seamstress who goes through a radical transformation after getting plastic surgery. The cast is rounded out by Ben Hollingsworth (Code Black), Hanneke Talbot (Playing Dead) and Mackenzie Gray (Legion).

A71 picked up Canadian rights to the film last year, and will distribute the horror in Canada. 101 Films is handling distribution in the U.K., while Back 40 Pictures will handle U.S. theatrical distribution. Meanwhile, Shout! Studios’ Scream Factory will distribute the film across other platforms in the U.S.

Rabid is produced in conjunction with Telefilm Canada, Ontario Media Development Corporation and London based, Media Finance Capital.
