Exec producer Sheila Hockin and Game of Thrones director Jeremy Podeswa are also among the festival's award winners.

The Banff World Media Festival has named Toronto’s New Metric Media as the winner of its 2018 Innovative Producer Award.

The prize, which honours an independent producer’s entrepreneurial achievements in the TV and digital media space, will be presented to the prodco behind Letterkenny (CraveTV, pictured) and Bad Blood (CityTV) at the Alberta festival’s annual Rockie Awards Gala Ceremony. Past winners of the award include Wolf + Rabbit Entertainment, Don Carmody and marblemedia.

Meanwhile, Sheila Hockin, co-exec producer of The Handmaid’s Tale (produced by MGM Television for Hulu), was announced as the festival’s Canadian Award of Distinction winner. As an exec producer, Hockin has helped bring to life global hits like The Tudors (Showtime), The Borgias (Showtime) and Vikings (History). Her other producer credits include the shows Penny Dreadful (Showtime) and Into the Badlands (AMC).

In addition, Canadian director Jeremy Podeswa is set to receive Banff’s Award of Excellence, which acknowledges exceptional achievements. Podeswa has previously received Primetime Emmy nominations for his directing work on three HBO series: Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and The Pacific.

Emmy award-winning journalist Elizabeth Vargas will also receive the A&E Inclusion Award. The prize celebrates individuals whose efforts and vision in media champion and reflect the diversity of the world we live in. Vargas is the face of A&E Network’s new non-fiction journalistic banner, A&E Investigates.

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Emmy and Tony award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth (Trial & Error, Hairspray Live!). The gala will take place on Tuesday, June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta.

As previously announced, NBCUniversal will be recognized as the 2018 Company of Distinction. The annual award celebrates a company that demonstrates leadership in the screen-based entertainment industry.

Other awards set to be presented at the 2018 Rockies Gala include The Hollywood Reporter Impact Award, The Grand Jury Prize and the Program of the Year.
