CHCH, Motion Content Group pact on scripted drama

The partnership will see the companies developing scripted TV drama for international markets.

Ontario-based indie channel CHCH and GroupM’s content division Motion Content Group have inked a partnership to develop scripted TV dramas for the international marketplace.

Led by Jennifer Chen, VP of programming for CHCH, and Tony Moulsdale, global director of programming for Motion Content Group, the pact will see the pair working with writers and third-party producers to develop and produce TV series.

A press release said the goal of the partnership is to build international coproductions that can more readily move from development through to production and release.

According to the CHCH, it is currently looking for one or two projects that it can begin developing through the pact. GroupM, which has financially backed a number of Canadian series including X Company and Cracked, has previously invested in CHCH originals such as Wynonna Earp and The Pinkertons.

This is the second deal that Motion Content Group has signed with a Canadian broadcaster in recent months, after it pacted with Bell Media Studios in September. Under that agreement, Bell Media Studios will create the IP while Motion Content will handle international sales.
