CCI’s Undercover Grandpa set for stateside theatrical release

In Canada, the $10 million indie comedy is being released on VOD today and premieres this fall on Bell Media's TMN.

undercover grandpa 2Indie comedy Undercover Grandpa, produced by Toronto’s CCI Entertainment, has been picked up for theatrical release in the U.S. via a deal with L.A.-based Vertical Entertainment.

The $10 million feature, which is released June 20 on VOD in Canada, is directed by Erik Canuel (Bon Cop Bad Cop 2, 19-2) and tells the story of a shy 17-year-old boy who teams up with his grandpa and his war veteran crew to save the girl of the boy’s dreams.

In the U.S., the film launches both theatrically and on VOD on July 7. In Canada, the feature comedy will make its broadcast premiere this fall on Bell Media’s The Movie Network. Elevation Pictures is handling domestic distribution while TAJJ Media is handling international sales.

Penned by screenplay writer Jeffrey Alan Schechter (Overruled!), the project was developed initially through Corus Entertainment and Telefilm’s Family Feature Production FundUndercover Grandpa is produced by CCI co-founder Arnie Zipursky (Sled Dogs) and Ronald J. Gilbert (The Moth Diaries) and executive produced by CCI co-founder Charles Falzon, TAFF Media president Jeff Sackman and Elevation Pictures co-president Noah Segal.

The film stars James Caan (The Godfather), Dylan Everett (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Lou Gossett Jr. (The Book of Negroes), Kenneth Welsh (The Day After Tomorrow), Jessica Walter (Archer), Paul Sorvino (Goodfellas), Lawrence Dane (Bride of Chucky) and Greta Oneiogo (Heroes Reborn).
