Tara Ellis is no longer with the CBC.
Ellis, who served as executive director of scripted content at the pubcaster since October 2015, exited the role May 11, Playback Daily has confirmed. Ellis led CBC’s scripted content teams, including comedy, drama, kids and digital originals. During her tenure, the CBC unveiled such series as Baroness Von Sketch Show, Bellevue, Pure, Anne and the upcoming Alias Grace.
“It was a difficult decision for Sally Catto [GM, programming at CBC English Television] as she has great respect for Tara, but felt she had to go in a different direction with respect to who will be leading the scripted team going forward,” said Chuck Thompson, head of public affairs, in an email.
Thompson added that Catto has just started the process of looking into how CBC will fill the role.
Ellis previously served as exec in charge of production at the CBC from 1994 to 2000, after which she joined Alliance Atlantis as VP, content at Showcase. She served as senior director of original drama at Shaw Media from October 2010 until April 2015. There, she oversaw series such as Rookie Blue, Bomb Girls and Remedy.
