Felix & Paul partner with the U.S. President

The Montreal VR studio has launched Through the Ages: President Obama Celebrates America's National Parks.

For its latest virtual reality experience, Montreal’s Felix & Paul Studios have teamed up with a rather prestigious personality: U.S. President Barack Obama.

The Emmy-winning VR producers partnered with the White House, Facebook’s Oculus and National Geographic to launch Through the Ages: President Obama Celebrates America’s National Parks.

The 11-minute project was filmed over Father’s Day weekend at Yosemite National Park in California, in honour of the U.S. National Park Service’s centennial.

Felix & Paul developed a custom version of its proprietary camera for the project, which allowed the filmmakers to capture 3D, 360-degree timelapse photography. The experience follows President Obama and his family on their trip through the park, and allows viewers to explore El Capitan, the Cathedral Rocks and other features of the park.

The project was written and directed by Felix & Paul founders Felix Lajeunesse and Paul Raphael, and produced by Felix & Paul Studios. Mathieu Dumont produced, with Stephane Rituit, Ryan Horrigan and Patrick Radden Keefe executive producing.

This isn’t the first time Felix & Paul has partnered with a U.S. president. The studio produced and directed Inside Impact: East Africa, in association with m ss ng p eces, which follows former president Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton as they visit three Clinton Global Initiative commitment sites. The VR experience was this year nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the Outstanding Interactive Media – Original Daytime Program or Series category.

While the project did not win the Emmy, another Felix & Paul VR experience did – Inside the Box of Kurios, which was created with Cirque du Soleil.

Through the Ages: President Obama Celebrates America’s National Parks is available in the Oculus Store for Gear VR.
