There must be plenty of happy vibes in the Corus/eOne offices this week as they break the news that Private Eyes is going to season two.
The Jason Priestley starrer has been a big hit for Global TV this summer, averaging over 1 million viewers (2+) per episode and, according to Corus, becoming the highest-rated new series of the summer. It debuted in May and averaged 1.4 million total viewers between both its first and second episodes.
Production on the second season will kick off this fall in Toronto on an expanded 18-episode order. The first season went to 10.
Private Eyes represents a significant win for the channel, which hasn’t found a replacement in the one-hour drama category that matched the success of Rookie Blue, which ended in 2015 after six seasons. Private Eyes is a twist on the same genre (procedural) with a lighter touch, featuring compelling chemistry between Priestley and Rookie Blue alum Cindy Sampson.
The series is executive produced by John Morayniss and Tecca Crosby for eOne, Shawn Piller and Lloyd Segan for Piller Segan and Jason Priestley. eOne distributes the series internationally.
