Kids’ CBC production exec Marie McCann is taking on the role of interim senior director, following Martin Markle’s departure from the Canadian pubcaster late last week.

CBC representative Chuck Thompson has confirmed McCann will assume Markle’s leadership duties while the corporation takes the time to consider a long-term plan. “We’re taking some time over the next couple of months to determine how best to move forward and who should lead the team,” he said.

After a three-year stint as head of preschool production at pubcaster TVO, where her credits included Gisele’s Big Backyard and Kids’ Canada, McCann returned to Kids’ CBC earlier this year as executive in charge of production for children’s content. (She shares the title with Drew Mullin, who also joined CBC at that time.) A production and development executive with more than two decades of experience, McCann has been reprising the role she held at Kids’ CBC from 2007 to 2012. (She is also the author of children’s book Larry the Dromedary: in the Zohar Sand.)

Both McCann and Mullin had been reporting to Markle, who joined the pubcaster last September after Kim Wilson exited the post of creative head of Kids’ CBC.
