The outpost officially opens its doors today (May 31), and will initially serve as a development office. The company has appointed Cat Hoskin to serve as U.S. director of development, charged with creating formats and content for the American market, in addition to building relationships with talent.

Hoskin got her start in the industry with Channel 4’s Emmy Award-winning reality series Faking It. She has also produced and directed such formats as Come Dine with MeGogglebox and A Place in the Sun, and she has produced for Studio Lambert, ITV Studios and Twenty Twenty Television, among others.

The exec will report directly to Simon Lloyd, CEO and co-founder of OHM, who will split his time between Toronto and New York. A team of four to five people will work in the Brooklyn office to start, Lloyd told realscreen.

“Now that we’ve consolidated our Canadian content business and increased the size of our Toronto office, it’s time to open a permanent base in New York to build on the five series and two pilots recently greenlit in the U.S.,” said Lloyd in a statement.

OHM employs about 60 to 70 people in Canada, and will move operations in July to a larger, 10,000-square-foot locale in Toronto, triple in size and featuring more production and editing space.

Commenting on the expansion into New York, Lloyd says starting a U.S. outpost has always been in the cards for the prodco – which launched in Toronto in 2014 – though the team has been “very careful about expanding [and not] expanding too rapidly.”

OHM’s credits include Buying the View (Canada) and Buying the View (North America) for W Network, Backroad Bounty for Blue Ant Media’s Cottage Life channel and the forthcoming Haunted Case Files for Blue Ant’s T+E and Destination America.

The prodco has also produced two seasons of the hit series Paranormal Survivor, also for T+E and Destination America.
