Blue Ant Media’s T+E channel and Discovery Communications-owned net Destination America will have a Paranormal Survivor spin-off haunting their schedules in the coming weeks.
The new series, Haunted Case Files, will shift focus from the survivors of spooky encounters to the ghost hunters and mediums who frequently encounter paranormal entities, and will recount their most memorable cases.
Produced by Paranormal Survivor‘s Toronto-based prodco, Our House Media, Haunted Case Files will premiere on Blue Ant’s T+E and on Destination America later this year.
Each episode will contain three stories from three different members of a “Paranormal Investigator” squad, and will feature interviews, recreations and audio and visual recordings. Production is now wrapping on the series.
Samantha Linton, VP of production for Blue Ant Media, calls Haunted Case Files a “natural extension” of the Paranormal Survivor brand.
While making the latter program – which has completed two seasons so far – producers had the chance to speak with investigators who got called in to deal with the paranormal incidents, sparking inspiration for a spin-off.
“Over two seasons we met some very interesting characters where they’re the last resort when it comes to helping people work through their nightmare scenarios, and we thought, ‘There’s something here,’ because they’re the ones with the most scary stories,” Linton told realscreen.
Now, Haunted Case Files will build off these new characters while maintaining the same documentary-style tone and recreations.
Commenting on the success of the paranormal genre for T+E (formerly Travel + Escape), Linton said the channel’s audience likes to be scared, and also takes the content very seriously.
“They like the heart-thumping adrenaline rush of being pulled into a ghost hunt or paranormal occurrence,” she said, adding, “This audience doesn’t like to make fun of the paranormal. They don’t like to debunk [it]. They take it seriously and they’re believers.”
Blue Ant Media works with Destination America on Paranormal Survivor and also recently teamed up for crypto-zoology program Killing Bigfoot.
Executive producers on Haunted Case Files are Simon Lloyd and Joe Houlihan for Our House Media. Cathy Garland is exec producing for Destination America. Blue Ant’s Linton serves as production executive.
